Translator in the sphere of professional communication        
       
Purposes of the Professional Education Department (PED):
                            
 
 
 
- training of specialists in the sphere of technical translation for increasing professional skills
- development of practical skills in professional translation and interpretation combined with studying Linguistic Theory and Translation Theory
- general improvement of linguistic competence (native and studied languages)
- extend knowledge of the studied language world
- development of cross-cultural competence for increasing efficiency of cross-cultural communication in the sphere of the professional activity
    
    
The program is oriented to those who strive for increasing their professional competence in the field of foreign languages and gaining an additional qualification allowing to combine their special knowledge and translation skills in the sphere of professional interests.    
    
The target audience:
- qualified specialists  in various areas of knowledge: economists, lawyers, specialists in other human sciences, natural science and technics
- corporate clients giving an opportunity to the personnel to develop their professional skills
- senior students
- postgraduates
 
 
The principles and goals of training are:
•    to improve the general level of a foreign language (oral and written)
•    to develop universal skills of the translation from a foreign language into Russian and from Russian into a foreign language
•    to study strategies and models of translation
•    to apply practically the acquired theoretical knowledge in the field of interlingual and cross-cultural communication
•    to develop and improve skills of professional use of dictionaries and databases
to work with special terminology and expand the basic vocabulary in the professional field
•    to work practically with texts within the scope of the speciality
•    to develop skills in searching terminological equivalents, translation equivalents
•    to improve knowledge of Russian in different functional speech styles
•    to expand and deepen the training by means of the core elective courses (at course participants’ choice) aimed at:
- expansion of a sphere and more detailed development of practical skills of translation and interpretation in the sphere of students’ professional interest
- more detailed acquaintance with cross-cultural aspects of the translation activity
   
   
The results of the training are:
- increasing the language and cross-cultural competence in the sphere of professional and business interests
- acquiring universal translation skills
- developing specialized translation and interpretation skills in the field of the professional activity
- obtaining the translator’s qualification (as an additional one to the main speciality)


After graduating course participants get a state-recognized diploma of the PSU named after T.G. Shevchenko confirming the award of the additional qualification “Translator in the sphere of professional communication”. Students without any higher education get a diploma of a translator only after getting the main higher education and the first diploma.

• highly skilled lecturers of the Department of the Germanic Languages and Their Teaching Methods of the PSU named after T.G. Shevchenko, the Rybnitsa branch
• translators-experts


Terms of the training and the curriculum


The training duration is 2,5 years (10-12 teaching periods per week).
The curriculum is timed for 1500 teaching periods.
    
Classes are given

The beginning of courses is in February or in September
Documents for the training are accepted since January till September

The curriculum description

The curriculum of the professional education “Translator in the sphere of professional communication” according to the accepted state standard provides:
- studying of general theoretical disciplines
- studying of special disciplines of practical orientation
- elective courses (at students’ choice)
- writing of a term paper in the 3rd and the 4th semester on translation problems connected with the scope of the first education
- translation work experience
- the final assessment on the curriculum is the state qualification examination in a foreign language and translation and writing of the thesis research project.
