Information for postgraduates and applicants for the degree of Candidate of Sciences in preparation for the exam in History and Philosophy of Science Since July 1, 2005, graduate students and applicants have been taking the candidate’s exam in History and Philosophy of Science instead of the exam in Philosophy. The Candidate’s exam in History and Philosophy of Science (hereinafter referred to as the exam) is taken according to the programs approved by the Order of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation No. 697 dated February 17, 2004, according to the corresponding Nomenclature of specialties of academic researchers. A postgraduate student (applicant) on the basis of independent study of historical and scientific material must submit a library-research paper on the history of the relevant branch of sciences in consultation with a supervisor of a thesis and the Department of Philosophy. It is desirable to carry out a library-research paper on the topic of history and philosophical problems related to the specialty of the thesis. In any case, a library-research paper should investigate the historical and philosophical problems of the discipline being studied. In the structure of a library-research paper, it is necessary 1) to present a historical overview of the studied issues and 2) to accompany it with a philosophical analysis and comments. The review of a library-research paper prepared on the history of the relevant branch is carried out by a supervisor, who carries out an initial examination, as well as a specialist in the history of the branch of science, who provides a short review of a library-research paper and gives an assessment according to the system "passed-unpassed". If an assessment is "passed", a graduate student (applicant) is allowed to take the exam in philosophy of science and philosophical (methodological) problems of the relevant branch of sciences. At the candidate’s exam in history and philosophy of science, a graduate student (applicant) must show deep knowledge in the field of such sections of science as: - general problems of philosophy of science. The subject and basic concepts of modern philosophy of science. Science in culture of modern civilization. The emergence of science and the main stages of its historical evolution. The structure of scientific knowledge. The dynamics of science as a process of generating new knowledge. Scientific traditions and scientific revolutions. Types of scientific rationality. Features of the modern stage of science development. Prospects of scientific and technological progress. Science as a social institution. - modern philosophical problems of the fields of scientific knowledge. This section reflects philosophical issues of emergence and stages of the historical evolution of the relevant branch of scientific knowledge in cultural, philosophical and methodological aspects. At the candidate’s exam, the problems of a library-research paper can be formulated as the third question of the card. The program of the candidate’s exam can be found on the website http://db.informika.ru/pke/ Rules for putting a library-research paper in order - a library-research paper is presented only in printed form; -its title page is drawn up according to the sample; -the volume of a library-research paper is about 30 pages, font 12, two intervals, continuous page numbering; - a library-research paper should consist of a table of contents (indicating the pages of sections), introduction, main chapters, conclusion and a list of references (at least 10 points).
