PROGRAMMERS’ DAY AT THE RYBNITSA BRANCH OF THE PSU
On Monday, September 13, 2021, on the 256th day of the year, the students of the Department of Information Technology and Software Engineering celebrated their professional holiday which is the Programmers’ Day.
Why specifically this day? It is obviously because of the figure 256 being almost sacred in the programming language. 256 is the largest possible number of elements in any 8-bit encoding system. Moreover, 256=28, where 2 symbolizes the binary system and 8 stands for the number of bits in 1 byte. It is the highest power of 2, the figure still being smaller than the number of days in a year. For the last 7 years, students and the department faculty have been driving to the camp of the Rybnitsa Branch in order to turn the freshmen into the department students. This year has not been an exception from the yearly ritual. The Head of the Department, Associate Professor Tyagulskaya Lyudmila A. congratulated the programmers-to-be and the Informatics Lecturers on their professional celebration and on the beginning of the academic year. She also wished everybody good luck in their difficult work. The seniors specializing in “Software Engineering” congratulated their future colleagues with quizzes and competitions, revealing the team spirit and the ability to work in a group. It goes without saying that the evening was not without active games and guitar songs. At the end of the sacred event Senior Lecturer Anatoliy B. Glazov read the Holy Book of every student studying at the Department of Information Technologies and Software Engineering which is “The Programmers’ Bible”. Afterwards, the students made the following vow: “Let my program loop forever at the inappropriate moment! Let me fail to bring a single cheat note to an exam! Let me not get the precious diploma!” The evening ended with a festive table waiting for the students.
