On December 10, 1948, the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Since then, this date has been celebrated annually as World Human Rights Day.

The Declaration proclaims the inalienable rights inherent in every person, regardless of his race, skin color, gender, language, religion, political or other beliefs, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
