ECOLOGY AND HUMAN LIFE

On February 10, 2022 the 1st International Scientific and Practical Conference “Ecology and Human Life” (We want to live so) was organized and held in form of an online Zoom conference. 
 


The work of the conference was organized in the following scientific fields:
- Ecological problems of the region, city and rural area.
- Use and rational use of natural resources (work experience)
- Food safety ensuring.
- Ecological education state and problems (HEI, school and pre-school educational institutions).
- Physical and geographical processes influencing ecosystems.
- Natural ecosystems’ sustainable growth.
- Ecological and technical methods for environment protection and conservation (existing and new ones, and work experience).
- Anthropogenic influence on the atmosphere and near-Earth space.
- Natural disasters.
- Physical fields’ impact on living beings.
- Biological diversity conservation.
- Environmental problems in church and theological understanding.
- Dniester river.  Its ecological problems and ways to solve them.
- Health and environment.
- Environmental ethics.
- Recommendations on the use of natural medicine.

All the participants received a link for joining the online conference and the program of the event. They were given recommendations and the connection was established too.

Deputy Director for Scientific Work, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Leontyak Grigory P. opened the conference greeting all the present. He expressed the hope for fruitful work and stated the time limit for the conference participants.

The plenary session was opened by Pavlinov Igor A., Candidate of Economic Sciences, Professor, Director of the Rybnitsa branch of the PSU named after T.G. Shevchenko. He read the welcoming speech of the Rector of the PSU named after T.G. Shevchenko, Professor Beril Stepan I. The speech noted, that the conference was to draw wide public attention, to help to solve important ecological problems successfully and achieve our common goals.

After that, the Head of the Administration of Rybnitsa and the Rybnitsa District Tyagai Viktor V. gave his welcoming speech. In his welcoming address the Deputy for Social Affairs Moldovsky Yury P. said: “Ecology is an integral part of human life. Environment preservation for future generations is one of the priority tasks of the State.”

The welcoming speech by Rozenberg A.N., Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources of Tiraspol, was delivered by Assistant Minister Tsybulsky Fedot S. He noted that execution of this event is a significant contribution of the scientific community to the development of the environmental movement, concern for the preservation and enhancement of natural resources, and ensuring healthy living conditions. Environmental protection, rational use of natural resources, ensuring environmental safety for human life is an essential condition for sustainable economic social development of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. In this regard, the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic is implementing an environmental policy aimed at maintaining a safe environment for the existence of animate and inanimate nature, the environment, protecting the life and health of the population from pollution of the natural environment, achieving harmonious interaction between society and nature, safety, rational use of natural resources.

The welcoming speech by Sotnikov Vasily V., Head of the State Environmental Control and Protection Service, was delivered by Deputy Head of the State Service Malyshev Mikhail D. He noted that environmental safety and stability should be a higher priority for the future of the country.   

The welcoming speech by Kornev Sergey V., General Director of the Moldova Steel Works in Rybnitsa, was narrated by Pismenny Sergey A., Head of the Nature Protection Department: “Holding the conference on such a current topic is an important event and, judging by the number of participants, it will help to attract broad public attention to topical issues that exist in the ecological environment.”

Pogrebnaya Oksana E., Deputy Head for Educational Activities of the Municipal Institution “Rybnitsa Public Education Department”, welcomed the meeting participants and wished them fruitful work. She also noted that educational institutions create all the conditions for the younger generation to realize their responsibility for the environment preservation. This lies in the fact that we annually plan environmentally-oriented projects in our educational work; some events have become traditional.
Further reports were heard.

Filipenko Sergey I., Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Head of the Research and Development Laboratory “Aquatic Ecosystems” of the Republican Research Institute of Ecology and Natural Resources made a report on the topic ”Republican Research Institute of Ecology and Natural Resources and its role in the research of the ecosystem of the Dniester River”. In his speech, he cited the results of hydrochemical and hydrobiological studies of the Dniester River. He showed the influence of wastewater treatment plants of the Pridnestrovian cities and the Byk River on the water quality of the Dniester. He gave a description of plankton, zoobenthos and ichthyofauna for 2010-2021, as well as an assessment of the potential fish productivity for feed resources, and a bioindicational assessment of the ecological state of the reservoir.

Tverdokhleb Boris I., a leading environmental engineer of OJSC Moldava Steel Works, made a report on the topic “Environmental problems of OJSC Moldava Steel Works and ways to solve them”. Climate change is an extraordinary global problem that transcends national borders. He drew attention to the fact that this problem requires coordinated decisions at all levels and the implementation of international cooperation in order to help countries transiting to a low-carbon economy.

Then Postolake Georgy G., Head of the Laboratory of Geobotany and Forestry, Doctor of Biology, Professor of the National Botanical Garden (Institute) named after Alejandro Ciubotaru made a speech. In his report “Natural protected areas in the Middle Dniester”, he noted that 21 protected natural areas have been created to preserve the plant diversity of the Middle Dniester. The scientific reserve “Yagorlyk” was created to preserve the diversity of plants and animals of steppe, water-meadow and swamp ecosystems.

After that Dudnik Anna L., Deputy Director, Chief Naturalist of the Karmelyukovo Podolia National Nature Park presented her report on the topic “The role of the National Nature Park in the conservation of biological diversity”. The characteristic of the forest ecosystem of the National Nature Park “Karmelyukovo Podolia”, prevailing in the nature reserve territory, was given. It has exceptional scientific significance as an example of the pralandscapes of the central part of Ukraine. The value of the natural Park ecosystems lies in their insignificant excitement, partly in their reference. In the forests of the Park, about 60% of their area is occupied by forests of natural origin. The main forest formation is oak and hornbeam plantations.

Leontyak Grigory P., Doctor of Agriculture, Professor, Deputy Director for Scientific Research of the Rybnitsa branch of the PSU named after T.G. Shevchenko considered the main environmental problems of our time, their manifestation and threat to humanity in his speech on the topic “Scientific and Environmental Problems of Nature Protection and Ecology”. He gave examples of the rational use of natural resources, botanical diversity and applied environmental problems. He proposed ways to solve urgent natural problems, in particular, the use of new information technologies in forest management, in particular a unified geoinformation system for monitoring forests of the region and the completion of the development of a forest code that allows obtaining the real value of forest resources and useful properties of the forest.  

Opalko Anatoly I., Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, a Leading Researcher of the National Dendrological Park “Sofiyivka” of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Uman, the Cherkasy region, Ukraine, presented his report on the topic “The history of the Origin of Ornamental Horticulture” analyzed a number of sources of domestic and world literature devoted to the evolution of the use of ornamental garden plants, from the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and ancient Romans to the “dark times” of the Middle Ages and the subsequent Renaissance in order to comprehend the current trends in “green urbanism”.

Mustya Mikhail V., a Leading Researcher of the Research Laboratory “Water Ecosystems” of the Republican Research Institute of Ecology and Natural Resources made a presentation “The Impact of Recreational Fishing on the Fish Resources of the Dniester within Pridnestrovie.” He noted that recreational fishing is one of the most accessible, widespread and favorite types of outdoor activities. This is facilitated by popularization on television and on the Internet, a variety of fishing gear and baits, and in our region accessibility to water bodies, primarily to the river Dniester. 

Sharapanovskaya Tatyana D., Director of the State Institution “State Reserve “Yagorlyk” made her speech on the topic “The current state, conservation and restoration of the biodiversity of natural ecosystems and threatened species of flora on the territory of the State Institution “State Reserve “Yagorlyk”. She spoke about the activities that are carried out to preserve populations of the most valuable flora species of the reserve, conservation and restoration of rare and Red Book species that need full sunlight, and assistance in the process of restoring the natural vegetation cover of the reserve.

Marunich Nikolai A., Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor, made a presentation on the topic “Carbon Landfills in Pridnestrovie.” In his speech, he noted that the nature-friendly technologies developed by Moldovan foresters and foresters of Pridnestrovie at the Institute of Ecology, which are geoenergetical, scientifically justified, allow creating a sustainable growth trend in the geoenergy potential of oak forests of the Republic, the potential for bioenergy growth due to phytomass and more efficient use of natural energy rent. The formation of carbon polygons will make it possible to get ahead of the competitors of neighboring countries in the field of European climate legislation.

Then Sedov Gennady I., a leading specialist of the Botanical Garden of the PSU named after T.G. Shevchenko spoke on the topic “The role of the Botanical Garden of the PSU named after T.G. Shevchenko in creating an urban ecosystem”. The speaker focused on the theme of greening the urban environment, the consequences of spontaneous planting of trees, the consequences of these plantings, ways to correct mistakes, and the experience of the employees of the Botanical Garden of the PSU named after. T.G. Shevchenko about the propagation of red-nervous poplar and the development of a technology for growing it as an object of landscaping on the streets of Tiraspol.

After that, Savchenko Eleonora Ya., a geography teacher of “School No. 6 with lyceum classes”, made a report on the topic “Conservation of Biological Diversity in Pridnestrovie.” The speaker argued the role of botanical gardens, parks, squares in the conservation of flora. Particular attention was focused on examples of biodiversity conservation in theme parks and squares. She highlighted the problems of environmental education of schoolchildren. She outlined her views on the diversity of work on environmental education at school with pupils and parents.

Golodnaya Elena G., Head of “Rybnitsa Kindergarten No. 25 of a general developmental type” outlined the relevance of the problem of physical education and environmental education in her speech “Integration of Physical and Environmental Education of Preschool Children". She considered the means and tasks of physical education and environmental education of preschoolers. 

Leontyeva Alevtina M., a teacher of Ukrainian school No. 1 with gymnasium classes devoted her report “Formation of Ecological Culture of Schoolchildren through Educational and Extracurricular Activities” to the state and problems of environmental education in Ukrainian school No. 1 with gymnasium classes as an element of the educational process. She revealed the model of environmental education and the main areas of work with pupils. She also cited the performance of pupils in environmental activities.

At the final stage, the presentation of the book “Flora and Human Health”  by Grigory P. Leontyak, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor and Natalia G. Leontyak-Nakul, cardiologist, took place. The scientific work collects and summarizes information concerning medicinal plants widely used in traditional folk and official medicine: their botanical characteristics and chemical composition, therapeutic and preventive properties, their habitats, technology of collection and drying, processing of storage, prescriptions of drugs and methods of their use, describes problems and recommendations for the use of wild fruit and medicinal herbs, how to be treated.

The results of the conference were summed up by the Deputy for scientific work, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Grigory P. Leontyak. He expressed gratitude to all the participants of the conference, noted the high-quality preparation, interesting reports.

Following the results of the work, participants adopted the following resolution:
1.    Consider the work of the Ist International Scientific and Practical Conference “Ecology and Human Life” (We want to live so) satisfactory.
2.    Take note of the information presented in the speeches of the conference participants and note the great practical significance of the stated topics.
3.    To continue further cooperation at the international level with representatives of science and education in order to exchange experience, as well as demonstrate achievements in this field.
4.    To publish the results of the conference in the collection of conference materials entitled “Ecology and Human Life”.
