FULFILLING THE INTERNATIONAL DUTY
On February 15, 2022 on the basis of the Department of General Scientific Disciplines, assisted by the Museum of Military Glory, Senior Lecturer Nikitina T.I. held an online lecture dedicated to “Fulfilling the international duty”. The lecture was organized for the freshmen in the training programs “Teacher Education”, “Software Engineering”, “Applied Information Science”, “Design” as well as the members of the students’ scientific club “Specifics of the Region’s cultural identity”. The conference commemorated the withdrawal of the Soviet troops from Afghanistan 33 years ago. The platform “Skype” was used for this purpose.
The Afghan war was one of the most brutal and bloody wars of the late 1980s. For Soviet soldiers and officers it began on December 25, 1979, when the USSR government decided to provide military assistance to the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. Till February 15, 1989, Soviet troops spent more than 9 years on the territory of Afghanistan and many of our countrymen served there.
According to the Rybnitsa Military Commissariat, 341 citizen of Rybnitsa and the Rybnitsa district served in Afghanistan. In that civil war soldiers and officers put a heavy burden on their shoulders. Many people were injured, had concussion and infectious diseases... Many people did not make it to this memorable day.
Materials from the Museum of Military Glory were presented at the lecture. These are the memories of the soldiers-internationalists from Rybnitsa, photos, documents, personal belongings, awards of Dashchenko D.V., Stratiy S.V., Savchenko E.P., Mironov V.A., Tsvinkailo P.S., Fedorov V.E., Sorokin V.V., etc, which helped the students imagine those terrible events.
Any war, even the most insignificant one, demands sacrifices. The total irrecoverable human losses of the Soviet Union in the Afghan War amounted to more than 15,000 people. 54 of them were from the PMR, 9 of whom were citizens of Rybnitsa and the Rybnitsa District. In total, there were 417 Pridnestrovian soldiers killed and reported missing in the Afghan War.
Every year, the international soldiers of our city celebrate the day of the Soviet Armed Forces withdrawal from Afghanistan.
